Welcome to the Careers Service

The Careers Service at University of Limerick is a valuable resource for students who want to prepare for their future careers and make informed decisions about their options. We help students develop and showcase their graduate capital—the combination of skills, knowledge, attributes, and networks they acquire during their studies. We offer various services and activities to support students throughout their career journey, from their first year until after graduation. Some of the services and activities we offer include: • Embedded modules that integrate career development into the curriculum • Seminars, presentations, careers fairs, and workshops • 1-2-1 consultations with a careers advisor who provide guidance and feedback. • Publications and online resources that offer information and advice on career-related topics on various topics related to career planning and employability

• A graduate vacancy service that connects students with employers and opportunities We also work closely with industry and business partners to ensure that our services and activities are relevant, up-to date, and responsive to the needs of the labour market. Our aim is to equip students for their future careers, not just their first graduate job. We encourage students to start thinking about their career goals early on and to take advantage of the opportunities available through the Careers Service.

What do we mean by Employability?

There are numerous definitions of employability. The one that we like most is:

“having a set of skills, knowledge, understanding and personal attributes that make a person more likely to choose and secure occupations in which they can be satisfied and successful”.

WACE Global Challenge The WACE Global Challenge is a unique programme that brings together students from various universities worldwide to collaboratively tackle challenges and identify shared value initiatives for industry clients. The multidisciplinary and cross cultural aspect of the teams adds an extra layer of complexity and diversity, enhancing the richness of the solutions generated. This virtual programme offers students valuable opportunities for skill development, including teamwork, cross-cultural communication, problem-solving, and industry-specific knowledge. It offers the opportunity of global work experience to students who were perhaps unable to physically relocate for a global work placement. Additionally, the emphasis on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG’s) suggests a commitment to creating solutions that not only benefit the industry client but also contribute positively to society or the environment. Participants in the Global Challenge gain real-world experience, exposure to different perspectives, and the chance to apply academic knowledge in a practical setting. It’s also a great platform for networking and building connections with peers from around the world. Currently 42 global institutions participate in this programme and UL is proud to have been one of nine that piloted this programme in 2020. Keep an eye on your emails for more details on how to get involved.
