A consistent theme across the Graduate Outcomes Survey and the Early Careers Employer Survey is the strong workplace readiness of UL graduates. Employers frequently point to the value of UL’s placement model, which spans Co-operative Education across all faculties, school placements for trainee teachers, and clinical placements in Nursing and Allied Health. These experiences ensure graduates leave UL with not only academic expertise but also significant professional experience and confidence in applying their skills. Graduates are moving into employment quickly, particularly in healthcare, education, engineering, and financial services. Many secure offers directly from their placement employers, while others benefit from the competitive edge these experiences provide when applying elsewhere. Structured graduate programmes, especially within multinational companies and professional services firms, also remain an important career pathway. Placements provide more than a line on a CV; they allow students to put theory into practice in settings that mirror their future careers. Engineering and business students on Co-op, trainee teachers in classrooms, and nursing or allied health students in hospitals and community health services all gain invaluable first-hand experience. Employers consistently identify this practical grounding as a key differentiator of UL graduates. There is also a wider community dimension. Placements in schools, hospitals, and health services contribute directly to regional development while strengthening employability. They enable graduates to enter the labour market with a clear sense of purpose and responsibility, positioning them to contribute effectively to inclusive and values-driven workplaces in Ireland and abroad.
